Auckland Ultimate’s Winter League filled up within days of being announced and kicks off on Thursday 18th August. The mixed league (played with 4 men and 3 women on the field at all times) is a first for Auckland Ultimate, being played on a brand new artificial turf under lights at Bill McKinley Park. Tournament Director Iain Stewart says playing on turf will be a huge improvement for this year’s event. “I have run a number of Winter Leagues and there is always the issue of field closures. Playing on turf means that games are guaranteed to go ahead, even if it rains for the whole week leading up to the event and playing under lights adds a different dimension to the game.”
The four teams entered are of a very high caliber, with the possiblity of all the teams represented attending the National Mixed Ultimate Championships later in the year. So – if you are in Mt Wellington on a Thursday around 8.30pm, stop by and have a look at the action. The draw and results can be found here.
