New Zealand Ultimate is pleased to announce that the 2013 New Zealand Mixed Ultimate Championships (NZMUC) tournament will run from Friday 15 – Sunday 17 November 2013 at Lloyd Elsmore Park South in Auckland.
This year’s event will be run over three days to cater for the increasing number of teams that have attended the tournament since 2009. The additional day will allow more flexibility with regards to the tournament draw and should mean not only more games, but more competitive games for all teams.
The timing of the tournament has also changed compared to recent years, with NZMUC being held earlier in the year. NZU hopes to entice more Australian mixed teams to make the trip across the Tasman by aligning the tournament with the AFDA’s Australian Mixed Ultimate Championships, traditionally held over New Zealand’s Labour Weekend.
The venue (Lloyd Elsmore Park South) is home to Pakuranga United Rugby Football Club, the biggest and fastest growing rugby club in Auckland. Auckland has very few venues with the space to hold NZMUC that are not used for cricket, so finding a facility with eight Ultimate fields for the whole weekend is great for the tournament. The rugby club will assist in the event with its facilities and NZU will work with the club, Auckland Ultimate and a local organising committee to put on a fantastic event.
More information will be available soon regarding the event and how teams can enter.
