A Busy Summer
Happy Valentine’s Day! Also this weekend in Auckland: NRL Nines, Eminem Rapture, Lantern Festival, and Splore. In Wellington, Homegrown is on. Not only that, but they are getting a very special visit from the Rise Up World Tour.
Mario O’Brien and Alex Snyder are the coaches travelling for Rise Up in Wellington this weekend and Auckland next weekend. I don’t know how to put this, but it’s kind of a big deal. Mario has already been to South Africa, and met Alex in Australia.
There are still a few spots left for the players clinic on the 23rd of February. Find more details here.
Ocean Beach is on March 1&2, at Whangarei Heads. With record sign ups, 50 on the first day alone, registration is already closed. Hat tournaments are increasingly popular with Taupo Hat expanding to 12 teams last year and Nelson Beach at its limit.
Twin Harbour Classic (8&9 March) is in its second year, targeting competitive teams building up to the New Zealand Ultimate Championships. This year there are six men’s teams and 4 women’s teams competing at Grey Lynn Park. Look out for a grudge match between Magon and Vic, the two open teams representing New Zealand at the World Ultimate Club Championships in Lecco, Italy in August. Artemis (women’s) from Wellington are also going to WUCC.
There is a breather for a couple of weekends, then the New Zealand Ultimate Championships are on in Christchurch on 29&30 March.
Exciting times for ultimate this summer. Watch out for more coverage over the coming weeks.
